SongBoom Universal Download Manager

Currently a download manager is in the works that will make your life a lot easier. It will only be available here at SongBoom.com, but it won't cost anything - that's right, it will be completely free. So, what will it do?  Please read on for a list of planned features it will have.

The 'SongBoom Universal Downloader' development has already begun, and should be ready for beta testing within a couple of weeks.  Here is a list of the features it will have:

  • Ability to connect to most (or all) of the sites reviewed here to take care of your downloads
  • Will not require you to use a browser to do any downloading
  • Is smart enough to figure out the names of the Artists, Albums, and Titles of the tracks you have purchased and need to download
  • Allows you to create a custom name for the file you are downloading so it will fit in your existing collection properly
  • Allows you to download into customizable directories (e.g. C:\Music\Artistname\AlbumName\tracks.mp3)
  • Will be multi-platform (Windows XP, Windows 2000, Vista, and Linux)
  • Will allow you to use multiple accounts at multiple sites for making downloads
  • Automatically monitors your purchases.  As soon as you buy something, it does all the dirty work for you!

Why is this better than using a normal downloader (flashget or similar)?  Well, simple.  The SongBoom Universal Downloader (ok, perhaps it will have a different name when it is released!) can properly name your MP3 files for you, and put them where you want.  It will automatically create directories that work the way you want.

Also, you don't ever need to go to a downloads page to "queue" anything - it logs into your account in the background and gathers all the links to the tracks you just purchased, and then downloads them using your custom filename/directory configuration.

If you are interested in becoming a beta tester, please click here and write something to the effect of "I would like to be a beta tester" in the email.  As soon as there is a beta release, you will get information on how to try it out.

Still working on it...

I am still working on it. I don't want to release it until it is capable of handling downloads on several sites at once (I only have two implemented currently), and recently I've been working on a separate project that has been taking time away from development on the Universal Downloader.

When I have a few more sites implemented I'll release it. Sorry for it taking so long, but I think it's better if I hold off on releasing it until it is more 'polished'.
