Sheesh, they don't even have the courage to 'sound' like they are legal.
http://mp3skyline.com/legal
Basically it says we are a file sharing resource and you are paying for an illegal something that you could do illegally for free sucker! ... Not the kind of language that I would use, but I'm transliterating.
Do any sites still accept paypal payments? I'm a little wary of giving my actual credit card info directly to sites or even to third-pary c.c. processors i know nothing about.
I use both Skyline and The Lavamus Sites (including, but may not be limited to) Lavamus.com, JustMusicStore.com, alloffmp3.org, mp3legal.org, and iSound.be.Ironically, all of these sites are having problems right now (see the forums), but putting that aside for a moment, I will comment here on Skyline (with comparisons to Lavamus) and will comment on the Lavamus sites in another post.I won't go over much of what is already in the reviews as they are quite thorough and informative, but will share my thoughts on the two companies.
My favorite thing about Skyline is the catalog.I have found things that I have never seen anywhere else, not on eBay, GEMM, or any download site.A lot of older stuff, a lot of obscure stuff, alternate versions, promo, vinyl, EPs, 12", etc. It’s the best catalog I’ve seen. And the search engine seems more logical than the one on the Lavamus sites.Lavamus doesn't seem to accept any special search parameters, so entering multiple words is like asking it to find an appearance of any of the words on the artist and album searches, but looks for the appearance of all words on the track search.Skyline looks for the appearance of all words on the artist, album, and track searches (narrowing down the hits to a more manageable selection). And Skyline gives you the choice, if you come up empty handed, to try a “soft search” which then looks for an appearance of any of the words in your search. If anyone has a better explanation of how these sites handle searches, or hints on getting the best out of these searches, I would appreciate hearing about them.
The price is fair (especially if you add enough to your account to get a bonus), but not as good as other sites. There’s no album discount, so a 20- or 30-track album might be cheaper on a different download site, or even on Amazon or another used CD site.
I like the fact that the preview Flash Player is “built-in” to the track info section. It makes it so easy to preview, then buy. Both sites let you hear the beginning, middle, and end of songs, interrupted by only a few “tape fast forward” sound effects.I like the direct download option, although a shopping cart has advantages. Also, don’t be careless with the mouse and accidentally click on the download option rather than the preview option as there’s no going back.
Last time I added money for both Lavamus and Skyline, they both offered SWREG as the payment processor and I've had no problems with them (so far, but check the forums as it appears things change fast in this business).

What adds a bit of confusion to alloffmp3.org is that when you access the site, the site name is All of MP3, but is not the same as the original allofmp3.And if you accidentally enter alloffmp3.com (instead of .org), you get a p2p site called allomp3.com.Yikes!No wonder I was confused.I like the Lavamus sites because the catalog is amazing.A lot of older, obscure stuff, vinyl, EPs, promos, 12", etc.The price is right (especially if you add enough to your account to get the best discount).I still can't figure out the two-tier pricing structure logic, but whatever, it's worth it for the huge catalog and is cheaper than Skyline. There’s no album discount, so a 20- or 30-track album might be cheaper on a different download site, or even on Amazon or another used CD site.
Rob noted in his review that the JustMusicStore catalog was larger than the others (except for Skyline), and the stats differ in print at the top of each Lavamus site, but since it seems the music all downloads from the same Lavamus servers, I tend to believe that the actual library is the same regardless of which site you access.Your username, password, and balance show up the same regardless of which site you access, so unless there really is a catalog size difference, pick the site that is most visually appealing: the orange JustMusicStore design or the red/gray "lavamus" style on the other sites.Otherwise, I’m not sure why Lavamus has different sites for seemingly the same stuff.
One very minor downside to the Lavamus sites versus Skyline, is that to preview a track, it brings up a separate Flash Player window rather than incorporating the Flash Player into the track info section. Not a big deal, especially compared to some sites where you have to download a preview, then open up a player to hear it.On the upside, it lets you preview an entire album, which is nice, and includes an “add to cart” button in the player window. Both sites let you hear the beginning, middle, and end of songs, interrupted by only a few “tape fast forward” sound effects.
My biggest frustration is the search engine. It doesn't seem to accept any special search parameters, so entering multiple words is like asking it to find an appearance of any of the words on the artist and album searches, but looks for the appearance of all words on the track search.Skyline looks for the appearance of all words on the artist, album, and track searches (narrowing down the hits to a more manageable selection). At least Skyline gives you the choice, if you come up empty handed, to try a “softsearch” which then looks for an appearance of any of the words in your search. If anyone has a better explanation of how these sites handle searches, or hints on getting the best out of these searches, I would appreciate hearing about them.

There are similar legal sections on most sites (I didn't paste links to all of them, just a few). If the website you want to use omits mention their legal status or licensing mechanism, the you should be suspicious.
I really like Emusic. Emusic is a great user-friendly site. Everything's in Mp3 format (of course) and it's really fast. You pay for a subscription and then all the downloads are free. An incredible site for Mp3 downloads!
i tried 2 sites out today, mp3skyline and legalSounds and was pleased with both.
Mostly i found legal sounds had an pretty good overall selection. I joined skyline for a specific artist though, and that seemed to be its strength; mp3skyline had some of the most obscure delicious music that i have not been able to find anywhere else! --
where legalsounds didn't come through with a really obscure track skyline seemed to have it, but skyline seemed to lack a more general selection, seemed very specialized, and frankly i don't mind that at all. --
anyways i liked them both pretty well, if you enjoy obscure techno skyline will probably have it, and if your tastes are more general legalsounds is a little easier to use
Does anyone have an opinion on which of the download sites has a decent catalogue of Australian music (yes, we do have an industry down here, we are not just living in the 1980's glory of INXS !!) - our dearly beloved but now defunct friend Allofmp3 had a smattering of Aussie material, and did catch some of the more notable launches (try Silverchair, Augie March), but was really only finding 1 good release in every 10.
Appreciate input from any of you other lost souls...(only lost 14 bucks in the demise of Allof, so didn't take too big a hit)
I think mp3skyline has a pretty great selection if you're into techno, dance, house, etc. They have some pretty unusual things I haven't seen anywhere else.
Sheesh, they don't even have the courage to 'sound' like they are legal.

If you're into Dance Music...techno, house, trance, eurodance, Hi-NRG, etc....then mp3sale.ru is defintely the best. They've got stuff I cannot find anywhere else! I was very impressed.
Iomoio is my new favorite MP3 music download site - it's extremely fast, reliable, easy to use, and great value for money. While on the face of it 15¢ is slightly more than you would pay at LegalSounds.com, almost every file is of a higher "bitrate", giving you a better Value
Incentives
If you top up your account with $30 or more, you will get the same value again, free! For example, add $50 to your account and get they will give you another $50 to spend on the site, completely free!
Unlimited downloads
Every week a user with $100 or more in their account will be randomly selected and awarded with an unlimited account, with which they can download as much as they want for absolutely nothing!
Daily bonuses
Every day your account will be credited with 0.01% of the sum of your deposits. This might not sound much, but by my calculations this means if you have added $150 to your account, you will receive $0.15 back every day! That's enough for 1 free song a day!
Quality/Price
Most of the MP3 files on the site are provided in a bitrate of at least 192 kbps, with many being as high as 320 kbps, meaning you get a lot better quality for your money (and each song is only 15¢!).
Website
While the other websites reviewed on this site look visually amazing with their custom graphics, Iomoio have placed the emphasis on website usability, which is why it is very easy to find what you are looking for in no time at all.
Music Archive
Have you ever heard of "Sten Nilsson & Joybells" or the "Flying Burrito Brothers"? No, me neither! But if you had, and were looking for MP3s of their work, you'll find it in the extensive Iomoio MP3 archive.
I was in the same situation. Read the reviews here and you'll find that some of the sites are pretty good. I signed up at all of them, but I'm going to try mp3fiesta and legalsounds since they seem to have the best prices. Most of them give you a signup bonus so you can download a free song anyway to try it out! You get several free songs with nothing to lose - I recommended my friends to sign up at least to get the free tunes :)
Tunes4u.org offers legal digital music downloads from a wide range of genres. they accept all major credit cards & even Paypal!

I used to use AllOfMP3 too, and I found that some of the sites reviewed here look pretty good. I tried the legalsounds program and it works fine, but its different than alltunes or allofmp3. I think I am going to try flashgot and gomusic or justmusicstore.

Those sites you listed are not real sites: they are 'satellites' of existing MP3 sites that are reviewed here.
Go to the real sites (MP3Skyline, MP3Fiesta, LegalSounds, MP3Sale) and don't fall for imitations that are set up to merely trick you.

Legality
The best way to determine if a particular website is legal is to look for their legal terms section and see if they are licensed appropriately.
For example, check the legal sections of these websites:
LegalSounds
MP3SkyLine
MP3Fiesta
JustMusicStore
Iomoio
MP3Sugar
There are similar legal sections on most sites (I didn't paste links to all of them, just a few). If the website you want to use omits mention their legal status or licensing mechanism, the you should be suspicious.
